Côte d'Azur areas

Apart from Les Issambres the Côte d’Azur has many more places and areas.
Below you will find more information about places and areas worth visiting.

Alpes-Maritimes and Var

The Var and the Alpes-Maritimes are extremely suitable for those who wish to alternate an active holiday with a beach holiday. There are vast and untouched scenic areas for endless hikes and many rivers for canoeing. Breathtaking are the many lanes along vineyards and lavender fields.  Characteristic are the old Provençal villages, many of which are worth visiting. The same holds good for the numerous good restaurants, golf courses and museums in this area. The great beaches, nice harbours and vibrant boulevards are not to be forgotten.
In brief, there are unprecedented opportunities.

Alpes-Maritimes

At some kilometres from the renowned coastal strip of the Côte d'Azur is the hinterland (l'Arrierre Pays).  It is amazing that at only a few kilometres from the busy, mundane coast oases of calm can be found. Between Cannes and Fréjus is the untouched and vast scenic area of  the Massif de l'Esterel and north of Grasse and Vence the Clues de Haute-Provence. Here you can wander for hours without being disturbed. Certainly worth visiting are the elevated mediaeval villages such as Gourdon and Entrevaux.

Between these vast scenic areas and the coast you will find a charming landscape, such as the  Gorges du Loup, with tree-covered hills, flower fields and many Provençal villages with their narrow streets, old churches, fountains, and picturesque squares such as Valbonne, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Tourettes-sur-Loup, Mougins and Biot. In the hinterland you will see orange and olive trees, beautiful mimosa and flower fields that are used for the perfume industry in Grasse.

In winter it is possible to ski on the nearby mountains and Greolieres-les-Neiges is at about 50 kilometres (30 miles) from Cannes. At about 140 kilometres (85 miles) from Les Issambres is the well-known ski area of Isola 2000, which is an ideal trip in winter. For more information about Isola 2000 please visit www.isola2000.com

Var

At some kilometres from the renowned coastal strip are the green valleys and tree-covered hills of Ste-Baume and the Massif des Maures with cascades, brooks and caves.
Between Cannes and Fréjus is the untouched and vast scenic area of Massif de l'Esterel.
In one of Provence’s most beautiful scenic areas you can wander for hours without being disturbed.

At a short distance from the Var is Gorges du Verdon. Here a fantastic landscape of rocks and crevices becomes visible. At the end of the Canyon is the wonderfully located Moustiers-Ste-Marie and a few kilometres further on near Puimoisson is the plateau of Valensole with beautiful lavender fields, almond trees and wild poppies.

In the Var are many Provençal villages with their narrow streets, old churches, fountains, and picturesque squares. Certainly worth a visit are Seillans, Fayence, Barjols, Aups, Cotignac, Lorgues en Salernes and  Ramatuelle, near St Tropez, Grimaud en Gassin. In this region you will find orange and olive trees, wine and lavender fields and beautiful mimosa.
