The Christmas season has started in France and the Christmas markets are being set up as we speak. For two months, now until the beginning of January, the French cities are transformed into true Christmas paradises. The streets are decorated, the Christmas chalets are built and everything is illuminated as nicely as possible. Monuments, parks, squares and facades are completely brought into a Christmas mood so that visitors can stroll in atmospheric streets. In this blog I show which Christmas markets are nice to visit in France, but also specifically from the South of France.
Christmas market Strasbourg
The Christmas market in Strasbourg is the Christmas market in all of France. Every year there are more than 300 stalls here in the historic center. The huge Christmas tree is also a must see when you walk around this beautiful city, on Place Kléber. The squares that you really have to go to are Place de Cathédrale and Place Broglie.
You can find many craft products here and special Christmas decorations. You will certainly find an original Christmas gift here!
Christmas market Metz
The second largest Christmas market in France organized in Metz. At Place Saint Louis you will find everything for Christmas too has to do: regional products, craftsmen, Christmas decorations and much more. Place de la Gare is also worth a visit, because there is a huge one here Christmas tree surrounded by nice local stalls with local products and Christmas items.
Christmas market Reims
In Reims (UNESCO) we find the Christmas market that is number three in France. Here are more than 125 stalls where traditional products are also sold and where you can enjoy delicious culinary delights. What makes this Christmas market in Reims so special are the stalls where large and small champagne houses and farmers offer their champagne for a nicer price than in the store. On the Place de la Republique there is a giant Ferris wheel and on Place d’Erlon, condorcet, the l’Etape and Buirette you have to go for more Christmas stalls.
Christmas market Nice
From December 1 to December 31, Nice goes back to the ultimate Christmas atmosphere! Everyday from 11.00 you can stroll here in the Christmas spirit until 20.00. On Friday and Saturday everything is open until 9 p.m. There are around 60 Christmas stables where they sell regional products and beautiful Christmas decorations. There are also many culinary stalls where you can taste delicious. There is also a skating rink and many shows for children. The place to be for all this is Place Masséna – Jardin Albert Ier.
Cannes Christmas market
From January 1 to 6 you can enjoy the Christmas market in Cannes. There is a beautiful Christmas market on Rue Félix Faure where you can enjoy culinary delights and come in a wonderful Christmas atmosphere thanks to the various Christmas products. The largest Christmas tree can be found on Esplanade Georges Pompidou and the ice rink with ice shows are given on Allées de la liberté.
All in all, a lot is being done in France before and during Christmas with all the Christmas markets. Southern France is certainly not inferior to the rest of France with its Christmas markets. I myself was in Nice last year around December 15 and had the wonderful Christmas feeling with my family when we walked there. Highly recommended! And PS: I had a lovely lunch outside on a terrace, because let’s face it, the South French live wonderfully outside.
